Easiest Wreath Ever

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

When we moved into our new place, I was jealous. Yep. Jealous of some of my neighbors who have the cutest porches. I soon realized that down in the south everyone has these cute chairs on their porch. I am wondering if it actually cools down enough for one to use them outside?! I kept pulling up to our place and knew that things were missing. Like a wreath and some sort of cutesy type stuff.

I bought this wreath for 50% off at Hobby Lobby for $2.50. It is a BIG one...like 24 inches I think. I love big bold wreaths. So I was so pleased when I found this one. Then I wanted to spruce it up a bit but not add too much, at least not for now. I bought some of their Christmas sprigs of berries that were .99 each. I placed them sporadically around my wreath just to add in some pops of color. I also wanted another bold statement so I found a letter (again at Hobby Lobby for $2) and painted it black. I used some polka dot black ribbon I already had and tied it onto my wreath holder. I am loving it's statement already! Plus, it was $8.50 for the whole wreath. Can't beat that!

Also, I am planning to switch out the sprigs of color. I already bought some great ones for Fall that I can't wait to use. Oh, and I am thinking about either covering up that A or else ripping it off entirely. I don't know. I guess time will tell.I also added the black vinyl "Welcome" that I created in Make the Cut with the Ballpark font. I swear this entirely transformed my door. It went from plain white to having this welcome on it and it did wonders for the whole "look."

Don't worry I didn't stop there with our porch. I have a few other things I have done but that will have to be shared another day. I am off to finish up about 3 more projects tonight. I just broke out my sewing machine for the first time since we moved here and I am just giddy to use it again. All new pillow covers for the pillows on our couches are going to fabulous. Don't get me wrong, I love our pillows how they are now but they aren't matching my whole ensemble so I need some covers to tie it all together. Can't wait to reveal it all. Slowly but surely so stay tuned. Oh and don't forget to go enter the giveaway for the Target gift card here.

Fireplace Cover Up

Monday, August 30, 2010

I told you I was going to share a fun way to cover up your fireplace...aka make it a little more one year old friendly!!

Enter a plain ole fireplace:I was getting sick of trying to reroute my little girl from trying to climb into said fireplace. So I knew it was time to come up with something to take away from the temptation. I also wanted it to be kind of cute too!

I bought a big white foamboard from Hobby Lobby...they only had two sizes and I bought one of the bigger ones for around $3-4. But if you are looking for smaller foamboard pieces (about 1/2 this size, they have them for $1 at the Dollar Tree!!)I used my cricut to cut out some fun vinyl. I used the Floralia font from dafont.com. I love that website!! Mine are 6" tall by 8" wide.
Then I had my hubby help me with the setup...he is a numbers guy and since my brain is mommy-fried, it was nice to not have to think too much.
I also used my straight edge and my rotary cutting mat just to make sure everything was placed on there perfectly. I did not want to have a bunch of semi-straight pieces. The perfectionist in me would have been driven crazy!
Then I hot glued some strong magnets in each of the four corners just to make sure it would stay put where I wanted it to.
I absolutely love how it turned out. It gives it just the right amount of color pop and it isn't too much. Plus, it works like a charm keeping out my little one. Super cheap and WAY easy to make. And those mantle projects....I will be sharing those too!
Oh, and the best part is that if we do want to use it once it is cold, then we can just pull it off and wah-lah a very usable fireplace is right underneath. Until then, we will just continue to enjoy the hot humid weather. Hope you can sense my sarcasm.

New Computer

Over the summer, I built a new computer. It is SO nice. I love having Windows 7 and a Terabyte of memory on my hard drive is finally enough for all of my pictures/files. I can't believe I used to have only 80GB!!

The fun is just beginning...

Friday, August 27, 2010

Oh, the joy of moving. I know I have been MIA like you wouldn't believe. I cannot even begin to explain the hassle of moving this time. Once we got here, we couldn't even put together our couch or kitchen table because we couldn't find the screws!! Ah, I tell you I was just about to start searching for kitchen tables on the internet. I was getting so sick of things not being 'put together.'

I have a ton of projects to show you and still so many more to do but I haven't wanted to stop to upload the photos and write the posts. We became obsessed with Lost over the summer and are just about to finish season 5. So please forgive me for doing more projects and spending some time with my hubby watching Lost. I will return sometime soon.

But here is a peek at some of the fun projects:

  • Kitchen Decor
  • Mantle Display
  • Vinyl Lettering in the Dining Room
  • Door Decor
  • Picture Frames
  • Fireplace Cover

I am sure there are more but those are just off the top of my head. Not to mention some dang cute little girl clothes and some fun jewelry for you!!

So enjoy the party links and check back for some more Fun to Craft ideas!! Hope you all had a great summer!

The decorating dilemma

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

I have a love/hate relationship with moving into a new place. The fun and excitement of what to decorate and where to put things I do enjoy. But then there are the new found joys of how do I make this look cute?? And don't forget the new things that I find my kids are always getting into that they shouldn't be. Take this fireplace for example. While I was super excited to have a mantle to decorate (still in progress so no pics yet but I will share some of my along the way ideas), I am annoyed that my 1 year old little girl always seems to want to go inside of the fireplace. While it is "clean," I don't really think it is clean. Does anyone else have this dilemma?? I came up with a fun solution that I am excited to share. Plus it is on the CHEAP like you wouldn't believe. Can't wait to share it!!
